Davison - Rachel Webster - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

Rachel Webster was born in Armaugh county, Ireland, November1, 1809. Departed this life March 7, 1904, at the advanced age of 95 years, 5 months and 7 days. She was married to Richard Davison, March 17, 1829. Soon after their marriage they left Ireland and set sail for America, landing at Quebec on the evening of May 18, 1929, then without a person they ever saw. They settled down on a farm in Clinton county, New York, where they lived for eight years. Not being contented with their home and country, they emigrated westward to Fairfield county, Ohio, where they again settled for a short time, moving thence to Indiana, where she lived until her death. She was the mother of eight children, five living and three having preceded her to the great beyond. Those living are Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas, of New Richmond; Mrs. Emily Walter, Mrs. Jane McIntyre, Fletcher Davison, of Cherry Grove, and Mrs. Martha Flemming, of near Crawfordsville. She united with the Presbyterian church in her early youth, living a faithful and devoted Christian until death. Always encouraging others by word and prayer during her life she found great comfort and strength in reading her bible.  She was to be often found with that blessed book in her hands. "Grandma" as she was familiarly called, was one of a family of ten children. She being the oldest but last to answer death's call. The minister in his funeral discourse remarked, it was the most remarkable funeral he ever attended since his ministry. A person born in another country, married in another country, moved to America, saw Indiana grow from its infancy to its present state. Saw her children reach their three score years and more and lived on the farm where she died for 47 years, more than an average life. Her husband Richard Davison died, October 1867, leaving her a widow to lead life's weary path alone. She is gone but not forgotten. Grandma was a motherly friend to everybody and was loved by all her acquaintances, and judging by her life we believe she has gained her reward wearing a crown of glory and singing and praising God who doeth all things well. Her devotion to her family and her friends never relaxed, and in her closing hours asked them to make sure of heaven and to meet her there. The funeral took place from the home of her son. Fletcher Davison on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. Hedrick, of Crawfordsville. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Masonic cemetery at Crawfordsville. She realized that her days on earth were few and her prayer often was. "O, Jesus take me tonight." Each evening at the setting of the sun she hoped her prayer would be answered before another day began. At last the sweet messenger came. Mrs. Rachel Davidson, aged ninety-five years, died of old age, Monday morning at 8 o'clock at her home seven miles north of the city, of old age.  She was a native of Ireland.  Fletcher Davidson, of this city, is a son of the deceased.  The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.  Interment was at the Masonic cemetery. – thanks muches to Kim H
